Technical Track: Total Cost of Ownership
David Hawkins discussion will include a survey of true cost elements of computer ownership. With the recent emphasis on corporate cost cutting, many companies make purchasing decisions based on initial price rather than on total cost. This presentation will focus on revealing the sub-optimization of this strategy, as well as how to benefit your career by becoming TCO savvy.

Professional Track - Understanding How Offshore Outsourcing affects the KC IT Professional (and other workers as well):
Offshore outsourcing is affecting many IT professionals, and other workers as well, right here in Kansas City. We need to increase our awareness of this trend in order to do good career planning for our families. In this program we are pulling together a group of speakers who can give KC IT professionals some good planning and awareness information. Peter Cook - The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) is a trade association comprised of leaders in the telecommunications, computing, automotive, industrial automation and network industries that is driving the development of Bluetooth wireless technology, a low cost short-range wireless specification for connecting mobile devices and bringing them to market.

Technical Track - Status of Technology in Healthcare Today
Dr. David Voran, MD is an accomplished physician that has incorporated the use of technology in delivery of healthcare services. Throughout his three decades of service in the industry he has strived to improve healthcare delivery through the incorporation of technology.  He is a highly published author in many of the medical and technology journals where he has published over 16 articles covering technology and software in healthcare. Throughout his career he has done hundreds of presentations and we are fortunate to have him come to our May meeting and share his thoughts on technology in Healthcare today.

Technical Track - Taming the Writing Monster
Information design professionals Deb Dietsch and Jan Farr take on the fear of the dreaded writing monster. You know, the panic attack that can overtake you when faced with writing a process, procedure, or user instructions, or sometimes just writing a letter. A lively group exercise will demonstrate a simple process for approaching any writing project. Whether developing a printed or on-line document, you’ll learn that good documentation means taking a deep breath and applying basic writing principles. Technical Track - SQL Server 2005: What's New
Microsoft is preparing to release their next version of SQL Server next year. Bill Graziano will provide and overview and demonstration of key features of the product. Topics to cover include database mirroring, snapshot isolation, security enhancements, .NET framework hosting (CLR/VB/C# stored procedures), XML and T-SQL enhancements.
