President's Message

January 29, 2006

Dear Kansas City Chapter Members and Friends:

I would like to thank the past presidents and board of directors of this association for their guidance and leadership as the technology community has struggled over the past few years.  Many such organizations did not make it through this time and it is only because of the leadership of these people that AITP is now growing again.

I have accepted the leadership role for AITP because I see a much brighter future for the association and the community it represents.  I also have some strong ideas that I have shared with the board and we are moving ahead with some key changes.  Let me elaborate on the ones we have already made:

1)      Meetings will no longer just be dinner meetings.  Some meetings will be held at host sites.

2)      Our regular meeting day will be the fourth Thursday of the month, not all will be held as regular meetings.

3)      AITP will participate in two (fall and spring) Joint Association Meetings per year.

4)      We will have 7 full meetings and 2 special events per year.

In the 40 years I have worked in technology, I have seen lots of change and I feel it is time for this organization to make some changes.  This year I am going to move us back to our roots (when the association was called DPMA).  During those days the association met at member sites where we shared knowledge on what, how and why things were done, helping to identify what was successful and what was not.  The driving force was growth, development and knowledge transfer, which is still valid today.

Another initiative is the establishment of a Special Interest Group (SIG) for mid-size organization Technology Managers.  The current Director of Membership is heading up this effort.  His goals are to build this group and hold special meetings with them to share information.  I believe SIGs are a valid part of what can make this association a stronger player in the KC technology community. If you have an idea for another SIG, please let me know.

As the year rolls out I will keep you posted on other initiatives we (the KC AITP Board) are discussing.  We’ve made a strong start and will continue to drive forward to make the KC Chapter grow and prosper in 2006.

Sincerely;

Steve Notson
2006 President KC Chapter AITP
